A simple Melbourne cafe – great coffee, solid food. All you can ask for in your local cafe.
Your typical inner city cafe – funky music, lines of people ordering take away coffee and packed tables inside and out.
We were promptly met by a waiter who sat us down on a communal table while he looked for a free lone table. As we didn’t mind the communal table, we politely declined the offer and ordered our lattes. Food and drinks came out quickly and cheerfully.
As we arrived a little late for breakfast or brunch, we decided, out of social acceptance, to go for two lunch options which were:
- Haloumi sandwich – beetroot, harissa mayo, tomato, spinach and kalamata olives
- Steak sandwich – chipotle mayo, caramelised onion, spinach and potato crisps
The steak was very well cooked, medium rare, meaning it was tender and easy to eat – something that is problematic in other cafes when the steak is too chewy – so this was a big plus.
The haloumi sandwich was excellent, although it was a bit of a bloodbath with the beetroot dripping all over the plate. A bit of a messy sandwich but we all like them – just don’t wear white clothes if you order this one!
The coffee is consistently good here, so much so one of us had 2.
Good coffee, good sandwiches… Done.
